Who must declare a new address
- Holders of a residence permit valid for more than 1 year, such as a multi-year card or a resident card
- Even if you moved within the same town
If you have an application in progress, such as a renewal or a change of status, also update your address in your ANEF account. This way, you do not miss a letter or an appointment from the prefecture.
How to declare it
- Where: online on ANEF, the official website for foreigners in France, in the service for a change of situation.
- Documents: your residence permit, your passport (identity pages, validity dates and entry stamps) and a proof of address less than 3 months old, for example an electricity bill or a rent receipt.
- Result: your declaration is recorded for free and you receive an attestation. Keep it with your card.

A new card with your new address
It is not mandatory: your current card stays valid. If you want a card with your new address, you can ask for it online on ANEF. You need an e-photo code (from an approved photo booth or photographer) and a €50 tax stamp. Family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens and holders of a Withdrawal Agreement card do not pay this fee.
Why it matters: the prefecture sends its letters and appointments to your declared address. A missed letter can mean a missed appointment or a missed deadline for your renewal.
