The Talent Passport, now officially called the multi-year residence permit "talent", is France's main permit for qualified profiles. It gives a card of up to 4 years, without a work authorisation for your employer, and an easier procedure for your family. Here are the categories and the rules in force in 2026.

The employee categories
- Qualified employee: a diploma at least equivalent to a master's obtained in France, a contract of more than 3 months, and at least €39,582 gross per year.
- Employee of an innovative company: a job linked to the research and development project of a young innovative company, and at least €39,582 gross per year.
- Employee on assignment (intra-group): at least 3 months in the group, a contract with the French employer, and at least €39,582 gross per year.
- EU Blue Card: a diploma of at least 3 years of higher education, or 5 years of comparable experience, a contract of at least 6 months, and at least €59,373 gross per year.
- Medical and pharmacy professions: an authorisation to practise and at least €41,386.48 gross per year.
- Researcher: a master's level diploma and a hosting agreement with an approved organisation.

The other Talent categories
- Business creation: a master's level diploma or 5 years of experience, a real and serious project, at least €30,000 of funding, and resources at least equal to the minimum wage (€22,404.20 gross per year).
- Innovative economic project: a project recognised by the French Ministry of the Economy.
- Direct investment: at least €300,000 invested in France, with at least 30% of the company's capital, creating or saving jobs.
- Company officer (mandataire social): at least €67,212.60 gross per year.
- Artists and authors: resources of at least €1,306.91 per month, with at least 51% from artistic activity.
How to apply
- From abroad: apply for a visa at the French consulate. For a stay of less than 12 months, the visa counts as your residence permit and you validate it online within 3 months. For 1 year or more, you then apply for your card online on ANEF.
- From France: apply online on ANEF, within 2 months after your arrival with a long-stay visa, or between 4 and 2 months before your current permit ends, for example after your studies.
- Cost: €350 (€300 tax and €50 stamp duty), paid in tax stamps.
- No work authorisation: for qualified employees, the EU Blue Card, researchers and medical professions, your employer does not need to request one.
Your family
Your spouse and minor children can come with you through the simplified "accompanying family" procedure, without family reunification. They receive a "talent-famille" card for the length of your stay, and your spouse can work in France.
The documents usually requested
- Your passport and your visa or current residence permit
- Your employment contract, or the documents of your project or investment
- Your diplomas, or proof of your professional experience
- Proof of address in France
- For your family: marriage certificate and birth certificates, translated into French
- ID photos
Good to know: the salary thresholds are gross amounts and they change when the minimum wage changes. Check your contract with us before you apply.
